Valencia Airport (VLC) has direct flights from London Gatwick, Stansted and Heathrow. From Africa, connect through Madrid (1 hour flight or 1.5 hour AVE train from Madrid). Train from Barcelona takes 1.5 hours on the high-speed service. From Madrid: 1 hour 35 minutes on AVE.

Food

What to eat

Valencia is the birthplace of paella — the real version uses rabbit, chicken and beans, not seafood (that came later for tourists). Eat it at La Pepica or La Riuà near the beach. Also: horchata (tiger nut drink) from Horchatería Santa Catalina, and fideuà (noodle paella with seafood) in the fishing quarter of El Cabanyal.
