English is the official language in Kenya and Uganda — you'll have no trouble getting around. Tanzania is slightly different but in Dar es Salaam and around AFCON venues staff will be English-speaking. A few Swahili words go a long way: 'Habari' (hello), 'Asante' (thank you), 'Karibu' (welcome).

French speakers: you'll be fine in tourist areas. AFCON 2027 will have French signage given the number of Francophone African nations competing.
