FIFA World Cup 2030 · Rabat

RabatMorocco's capital. UNESCO heritage. World Cup 2030.

Rabat is Morocco's political capital and one of its four Imperial Cities. The Moulay Abdallah Stadium — Morocco's national team home — hosts FIFA 2030 matches after major renovation. A quieter, more laid-back alternative to Casablanca with excellent cultural attractions and easy connections to all other host cities.

Where to stay

Best areas for World Cup fans

Medina (Old Town)

Authentic

Rabat's medina is smaller and less touristy than Marrakech or Fez — a more authentic and relaxed experience. Walk to the Kasbah of the Udayas.

Agdal

Practical

Modern district near the stadium and railway station. International hotels and restaurants. Practical for matchday.

Hassan

Cultural

Near the Hassan Tower and Mohammed V Mausoleum. Good mid-range hotels in a culturally rich area.

Souissi

Premium

Upscale residential area. Quieter, premium villa and guesthouse options.

Getting around

Transport

Rabat has a modern tram network (two lines) connecting the main areas including the medina, Agdal and the railway station. Petit taxis are cheap and frequent. Rabat and its sister city Salé are connected by tram across the Bouregreg river.

Arriving

Getting here

Rabat-Salé Airport (RBA) has limited international connections — most fans will fly into Casablanca (CMN, 45 minutes away) and take the train. The Casablanca → Rabat ONCF train runs frequently and takes 1 hour. The Al Boraq high-speed train from Tangier stops in Rabat (1 hour 15 minutes from Tangier).

Food

What to eat

Rabat is less touristy than Marrakech which means better prices and more authentic food. Try: mechoui (slow-roasted lamb) from the medina, harira soup with msemen (flat bread), fresh seafood from the Atlantic coast — the grilled fish restaurants near the Bouregreg estuary are outstanding.
