East Africa is excellent for families. Nairobi has the Giraffe Centre and David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage which kids absolutely love. Safaris are great for older children. Kampala is very laid-back and family-friendly. Just make sure vaccinations are up to date and bring kids' mosquito repellent.

My kids still talk about feeding giraffes in Nairobi. It's 10 minutes from the main hotel district.
