No team has qualified yet: Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda are through as co-hosts. Every other nation below is competing in the groups shown — qualifying runs September 2026 to March 2027, and nobody else is confirmed for the finals until then.
How AFCON 2027 Works
24 teams divided into 6 groups of 4. Each team plays 3 matches. Top 2 from each group plus 4 best third-placed teams advance (36 matches).
Knockout stage begins with 16 qualified teams (8 matches).
8 teams compete for semi-final spots (4 matches).
4 teams battle for the final (2 matches).
The two best teams compete for the AFCON 2027 trophy (1 match).
Semi-final losers compete for bronze (1 match).
