AsunciónParaguay's first World Cup match. Ever.
Asunción hosts one FIFA World Cup 2030 centenary match — and it is Paraguay's first ever World Cup fixture. The Estadio Nacional del Paraguay will stage a match that means more to the Paraguayan nation than any sporting event in the country's history. The least visited of the South American centenary cities, but potentially the most intimate and passionate crowd of the entire tournament.
Estadio Nacional del Paraguay
Estadio Nacional del Paraguay
Paraguay's national stadium will host the country's first ever World Cup fixture — a centenary celebration match that recognises Paraguay as the home of CONMEBOL (the South American Football Confederation). At 36,000 capacity, this is the smallest FIFA 2030 venue — but the atmosphere per square metre may be the most intense of any match in the tournament.

What to eat
Paraguayan food is distinct from the rest of South America. Sopa paraguaya (a dense, savoury cornbread with cheese and onion — despite the name 'sopa' meaning soup, it is solid) is the national dish. Chipa (cheese bread rings, sold on every street corner) for breakfast. Tereré (cold mate with herbs) is the Paraguayan version of Argentine mate. Asado is universal. The Mercado 4 is the city's main market and street food hub.
