AFCON 2027 hasn't kicked off yet. AFCON 2028 is the edition that follows — here's the current state of play.
AFCON has run on a two-year cycle since 2013. Based on this, AFCON 2028 would follow AFCON 2027 and is expected to take place in January–February 2028. CAF reserves the right to adjust scheduling.
CAF typically announces tournament hosts well in advance, but the AFCON 2028 bidding process has not concluded publicly as of 2026. North Africa and West Africa are considered likely regions given the East Africa focus of 2027.
AFCON expanded to 24 participating nations in 2019. The format has been retained for AFCON 2027 and is expected to continue for 2028. Qualification runs through CAF's World Cup and AFCON qualifying windows.

As of 2026, CAF has not officially announced AFCON 2028 host nation(s). The tournament typically follows a two-year cycle, so AFCON 2028 would be the edition after AFCON 2027 (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania). Official confirmation is expected from CAF in due course.
