Guinea's AFCON 2027 Qualifiers Squad: Moriba Returns as Duarte Names Squad for South Africa and Kenya

Guinea coach Paulo Duarte has named a 25-man squad for qualifiers against South Africa and Kenya, with Ilaix Moriba among several returning players and Aboubacar Keïta handed a first cap.
Guinea coach Paulo Duarte has recalled Ilaix Moriba to his squad for a qualifying window that could hardly be more consequential — South Africa away, then Kenya at home, in a Group D section where only the best-placed team behind already-qualified co-host Kenya advances.
Guinea travel to Johannesburg to face South Africa at Orlando Stadium on 26 September, before hosting Kenya in Conakry on 1 October.
Moriba leads a wave of returns
Moriba returns to a midfield that also features Seydouba Cissé, Ousmane Diabaté, Ibrahima Sory Bangoura and Lass Kourouma, bringing much-needed experience back into a group containing a number of relatively young players. He's joined by fellow returnees Madiou Keïta and Saïdou Sow.
A first cap for a well-travelled defender
Kalmar FF's Aboubacar Keïta, 26, receives his first senior call-up after an unusual path to the Guinea squad — born in New York, he began his professional career in Major League Soccer with Columbus Crew, winning the MLS Cup in 2020, before spells at Colorado Rapids and St Louis City took him to Europe.
Guirassy leads the attack
Borussia Dortmund's Serhou Guirassy remains Guinea's most dangerous attacking threat, joined by Aguibou Camara, Aliou Baldé, Mohamed Bangoura, Ousmane Camara, Abdoul Traoré, Yadaly Diaby, Lamine Diaby-Fadiga and Morlaye Sylla.
Who's missing
Several established names are absent: Naby Keïta, Mohamed Mady Camara, Cheick Oumar Condé, Dembo Sylla, Morgan Guilavogui, Issiaga Sylla and Mohamed Bayo have all been left out, giving Duarte's squad a slightly different look than recent campaigns.
