Gabon's AFCON 2027 Qualifiers Squad: Migné Begins a New Era Without Aubameyang

New Gabon coach Sébastien Migné has named his first squad since Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's international retirement, ahead of qualifiers against Morocco and Niger.
New Gabon coach Sébastien Migné has named his first squad in charge of the Panthers — and for the first time in years, it doesn't include Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Gabon's former captain announced his retirement from international football following the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, saying he felt "insulted" by the treatment he received afterwards despite playing through injury. His departure leaves Migné with the task of reshaping Gabon's attack from scratch, starting with a demanding trip to Morocco on 25 September and a home fixture against Niger four days later.
Bouanga steps into the lead role
LAFC forward Denis Bouanga is the obvious candidate to inherit Aubameyang's role as Gabon's attacking focal point. He's included among seven forwards selected, alongside Shavy Babicka, Jim Allevinah, Teddy Andami, Orphé Mbina, Jordi Ella and Junior Effaghe.
Experience elsewhere in midfield comes from Mario Lemina, Guélor Kanga, André Poko, Ibrahim Ndong and Henrick Do Marcolino — a five-man group that gives Migné a settled platform even as the attack rebuilds.
A defence with depth
Migné has picked nine defenders, including brothers Anthony and Jérémy Oyono, alongside Jacques Ekomie, Aaron Appindangoye, Jonathan Do Marcolino, Philippe Ndinga, Alex Moucketou, Brad Mantsounga and Michel Mboula. Jean-Noël Amonome, Lucas Mouguenou and Junior Bekale compete in goal.
An immediate test
Facing Morocco away in Migné's first competitive match is about as tough an opener as qualifying offers — especially with Morocco also under a new coach in Mohamed Ouahbi. The Niger fixture that follows gives Gabon a more realistic chance to open their points tally.
