FIFA World Cup 2030 Group Stage: Which Cities Host What and How to Plan

How FIFA World Cup 2030 group stage matches will be distributed across Spain, Portugal and Morocco. Which cities to base in, how many matches each city hosts, and how to plan your group stage trip.
FIFA World Cup 2030 has 48 teams playing in 12 groups of four. The group stage produces 48 matches — the most of any stage of the tournament and where the majority of fans will attend.
Understanding how the group stage will be distributed across Spain, Portugal and Morocco is essential for planning which city to base in and how many matches you can realistically attend.
How the group stage distribution works
FIFA will allocate groups to specific venue clusters — meaning a full group (all 6 matches for that group) is played in a defined set of cities. This allows fans to see multiple group stage matches without moving between host countries mid-group.
Based on the number of venues in each country and capacity distribution:
Spain (11 venues): Expected to host the majority of group stage matches — likely 5–6 groups out of 12. Madrid and Barcelona, with two venues each, give Spain the capacity to host the most matches of any host nation.
Morocco (6 venues): Expected to host 4–5 groups. Casablanca's Hassan II Stadium and Tangier's large capacity mean Morocco can handle high-attendance matches. The Morocco phase of the group stage will likely include at least one very high-profile group.
Portugal (3 venues): Expected to host 2–3 groups. Lisbon's two stadiums and Porto give Portugal enough capacity for a smaller but significant allocation.
Choosing your group stage base
Casablanca: The most flexible Moroccan base. Two nearby stadiums (Hassan II and potentially Rabat for quick rail trips). Direct rail to Marrakech, Fez, Agadir. Largest international airport in Morocco.
Madrid: The most match-rich city in Spain with two stadiums. If you want to see 3+ group stage matches in one base city without moving, Madrid is the pick.
Barcelona: Two venues, second largest city, excellent international connections. The Camp Nou group stage experience will be one of the iconic FIFA 2030 moments.
Seville: Single venue but warm, cultural, atmospheric. The La Cartuja group stage matches will have brilliant atmosphere.
Bilbao: San Mamés group stage atmosphere will rival anywhere. Smaller city, very manageable, Basque culture adds depth.
How many matches can you see in one trip?
A 7-day group stage trip allows for 2–3 matches depending on scheduling. Group stage matches are typically staged across 3–4 days per round — meaning there are usually 2 matches per day per venue cluster.
A realistic 10-day trip structure:
- Days 1–5: Morocco base (2 group stage matches, 1 cultural day)
- Days 6–10: Spain base (1–2 group stage matches, city exploration)
A 14-day trip allows 4–5 group stage matches across two countries.
Following your national team
If your national team qualifies, you'll want to attend their group stage matches wherever they're playing. The fixture schedule (confirmed approximately 12–18 months before the tournament) will tell you which group your team is in and which cities host their matches.
Cantravu packages can be built around your national team's group stage locations once the schedule is confirmed — either by adjusting a pre-booked package or building fresh from the confirmed fixture list.
